They are well known for marketing the business. The cousins first began selling their art along the street. Then in December of 2004 Mkali and Chamngánda set up a store at the Victoria and Alfred waterfront.
Afrika Yetu is a partnership formed between Fadhili Mkali and Haji Chamngánda, artists who are cousins from Tanzania. Afrika Yethu in Swahili means “Our Africa”
Mkali and Chamngánda met in Cape Town after both had been involved for a couple of years with art activities. Mkali and Chamngánda came up with the business venture in December 2001. The customers were so delighted at the quality of their workmanship that they referred to the Pastor Ken Krahn, his wife Nora Krahn and the Aniimae Group, all from USA.
